Itinerary

6 Days Luxury Tanzania Safari / Fly Back from Serengeti

This unique itinerary is a one-way driving safari to Tanzania’s very best wildlife areas. At the end of the safari, in the Serengeti, we fly you back to the Kilimanjaro airport, in time to connect with a flight out or connect with a flight to Zanzibar. With 6 days, you have time to experience northern Tanzania’s best wildlife viewing.

From November through May, we visit Lake Manyara, a scenic park with classic African big game and fantastic birdlife (over 400 species). From June through October, we visit Tarangire. Tarangire is a beautiful park filled with Baobabs and Acacias with a large variety of game such as zebras, buffalo, giraffes, and waterbuck.

Of note during this time are the massed elephants along the Tarangire River – a tremendous sight – and the healthy pride of lions.

From there, we head to the Ngorongoro. This is the largest intact crater in the world abundant with wild game including elephants, rhinos, cheetahs, lions, leopards, and hyenas.

You will also visit the Serengeti, Tanzania’s most famous and largest national park and one of the most spectacular parks in the world. The “endless plains” cover some 14,763 square kilometers including large plains, short grass plains, kopjes, and lakes.

Tour Plan

Day 1: Drive to Lake Manyara or Tarangire for afternoon game drive

Depart for Lake Manyara (from December > to May) OR Tarangire National Park (from June > to November) with a picnic lunch en route. Once inside the park, enjoy a game drive until late afternoon, then continue to your safari lodge for the evening.

Tarangire is famous for its huge herds of elephants and baobab trees. Throughout the dry season, wildlife will trek hundreds of kilometers to drink the reliable water found at the Tarangire River. This in turn attracts predators, especially large prides of lions. Besides lions, commonly seen species include impala, buffalo, zebras, elephants, giraffes, warthog, eland and waterbuck. Rarer animals like oryx, lesser kudo, roan antelope, wild dogs, leopards, and cheetahs can also be found here. The birdlife here is varied and spectacular.

Lake Manyara, rimmed by the scenic 600-meter cliffs of the Rift Valley escarpment, protects a large alkaline lake and is home to a wildlife-rich savannah-forest mix. It makes an outstanding introduction to Africa's wildlife, with elephants, wildebeest, giraffes, buffalo, zebra, impala, waterbuck, and waterbuck roaming the park in healthy numbers while lions are also present. Dik-dik antelope and klipspringer call the rocky escarpment landscape home. Huge troops of baboons frolic in the forest openings, with blue monkeys present on the forest edge. Manyara also features nearly 400 different species of birds, including crowned eagles, crested guinea fowl, and the silvery-cheeked hornbills among a host of water-related birds.

The largest national park in Tanzania and one of the most spectacular parks in the world, the Serengeti covers some 14,763 square kilometers including large plains, short grass plains, kopjes, and lakes. The Serengeti is the northernmost park in the northern circuit. It borders Kenya with the Masaai Mara continuing on the Kenya side.

The Olduvai Gorge delivers substantial evidence of the earliest signs of humankind, with rare hominid footprints preserved in solid rock from 3,600,000 years ago.

There are many authentic Masaai villages in the area to visit. Here you have a chance to get to know authentic Maasai families and see what real life is like for the locals. You can visit homes, watch traditional dances, and purchase homemade jewelry.

Not far behind follow the hungry lions, cheetahs, and hyenas Other predators such as leopards, serval cats, and jackals watch the wandering game with interest, and elephants, rhinos, and buffalo continue their grazing.
