Materuni Waterfall & Coffee Tour

from $191 /person

Explore the authentic charm of Materuni, the ancestral home of the Chagga tribe, nestled just 15km from Moshi Town and serving as the gateway to Kilimanjaro National Park.

Your adventure begins with a morning pickup in Moshi by our knowledgeable English-speaking guide, who will drive you to Materuni Village. Upon arrival, you’ll register at the village office, marking the start of your journey.

Embark on a scenic 40-minute walk to the majestic waterfalls, led by your guide who will enlighten you about Chagga culture, village life, and the diverse flora and fauna along the way.

Marvel at breathtaking views and, if luck is on your side, catch a glimpse of Kilimanjaro’s summit. Arriving at the falls, standing over 80 meters tall, you’ll find the inviting pool below perfect for a refreshing swim—don’t forget your swimwear!

After soaking in the beauty, return to Materuni village with your guide to indulge in a traditional Chagga lunch. Here, you’ll have the chance to sample local delicacies and savor the not-to-be-missed banana beer.

But the adventure doesn’t end there. Delve into the coffee experience, learning about the cultivation, drying, roasting, and processing of coffee beans. Join in the traditional coffee grinding, accompanied by lively Chagga songs and dances—an immersive cultural experience. Before bidding farewell and returning to Moshi in the afternoon, relish the coffee you helped make while taking in the stunning views of the surrounding rainforest.

Please note: This tour is available from Moshi with private transport or public transport (see prices). We highly recommend private transport for a smoother experience, as public transport can be delayed and overcrowded.
